Hunter was born nearly twenty years ago to an old Gnawer woman in DC whom he never had time to know. She had turned to the Hood for help with her child, and when she fell to despair and drink a year later, they took him from her and put him in a good home with Kinfolk in New York. He loved it there, and would have grown up to be a nice, well-adjusted child... had he not found out where he came from. Like many adopted children, he dreamed about who his real parents were, and romanticized it. He decided, at the mature age of 11, to go looking for them. He planned it for over a year, saving up his allowance (his parents thought he was just developing a keen financial sense) for his trip. It was a dreary day when he climbed onto the bus to DC, and it set the tone for the next few years of his life.
His arrival in DC was uneventful, and he started his search. Sadly, the young Hunter wasn't as successful as his name indicated, and he never did find his parents. His money quickly ran out, and he was terrified to try and contact his parents because of his reason for leaving in the first place. He ended up living on the streets, another sniffling street rat with no home. Fortunately, he was found by a kind soul who took care of him and made sure he was fed and never went hungry. An old man named Mathias, he looked on the child as a son, and raised him for the following years, even going so far as to get a job and small apartment. This child seemed to be just the thing that old Mathias had needed to set his life back on track, and he did his best to keep him in school and learning, and even took him to the various museums around DC when he could afford to. Again, it seemed as if Hunter would turn out relatively normal. One day, when Hunter was 14, he came home from school to find old Mathias sleeping on the couch. He went over to wake him up to show him his report card, of which he was so proud, but no matter how he tried, he couldn't wake the old man up. He panicked and ran, out of the apartment and through the streets, clutching his crumpled report card, until he finally collapsed, exhausted, in an alleyway. This time, there was no one to take him in, and he spent the following years on the streets, alone and living off of handouts and anything he could scrounge up. But any time he gathered together enough money, or was nearby, he always went to visit the museums that he used to go to with old Mathias, learning everything he could the only way he knew how.
The following years were hard on Hunter, but he survived. And thrived, actually, on the instincts buried inside him. Whether it was performing manual labor or stealing from an unsuspecting vendor, he always managed to keep himself fed and in museum-money. It was when he was 18, standing in a museum admiring a mummy case, that someone took an interest in him. A young Glass Walker, in his late twenties, noticed him at an exhibit that he'd helped get placed there, and thought he'd show off. He brought up an obscure fact about the mummy, only to have it refuted by the young man in front of him. He stared, surprised, shocked even, that this whelp had dared suggest he might be wrong... until he saw the placard on the display, and realized that Hunter was right. He paused, and looked more closely at the dirty, smelly young man before him, and thought he recognized something in him. He took a whiff, wrinkling his nose at the smell, and gave a small smile (a charming smile, thought Hunter) and asked Hunter if he'd like to get cleaned up and take a look at some more information he had at home. Hunter agreed, hesitantly, thinking there was something more than a pick-up to this, but that smile...
The Glass Walker turned out to be the wealthy son of a wealthy family, with money that was older than most states. His name was Alex Stavro, and he introduced Hunter to what it was to be Garou. He guided him through his First Change and taught him what he needed to know, and more. They became lovers, and Hunter truly fell in love with him. He thought the feelings were reciprocated, but alas, in the end, he found he was wrong. They lived together happily, more or less, for a year as Hunter was introduced around to other Garou. Alex cleaned him up and readied him for his 'new life' amongst the upper class, but there was too much of the street rat in him to be able to hide it for long. Eventually, Alex began to see him as an emberassment, but he would never say so to his face. He cared for Hunter, but didn't actually love him. Then, one day, Hunter brought some of his new friends, Bone Gnawers, over to visit... it was too much for Alex, who exploded at him, and let his true feelings be known. Hunter's heart broke in that instant. He barreled out of the house and never returned, choosing instead to live with his new friends on the streets. But some times, he sneaks quietly up to Alex's house and peeks inside, to make sure he's all right, and late at night he pines away for his lost love, his pride hurt more than his feelings.<\P>
